Bi the Way is our biweekly event list where we share all the best local LGBTQ+ and queer-inclusive happenings in Memphis and the Midsouth in the next two weeks. 

Now—an art bazaar, drag brunch, fashions show, queer theater, a march for Trans Day of Visibility, and more!

Breaking the Rules: Paul Wonner and Theophilus Brown | Dixon Gallery and Gardens | Through March 31st (last weekend!) | All ages | Free | These two artists, based in the San Francisco Bay Area in the late 1940s and early 1950s, met and became a couple in 1952. Paul Wonner (1920 – 2008) and William “Theophilus” Brown (1919 – 2012) both began as practitioners of a style that came to be known as Bay Area Figuration.

Drag Race Watch Party at DRUS Bar | Fridays, 7PM | 21+ | Free | Join iconic host India Taco as you cheer on your fave drag performers every Friday, til’ RuPaul crowns season 16’s winner!

Healing Thru Colors | The Medicine Factory | Through April 1. Scheduled tours required, 10am – 5pm | All ages | Free | Abstract expressionist artist Alexandra Baker shares 17 brilliant original pieces at her 4th solo show. Reach out to stop by before it closes!

Line Dancing with Q | DRUS Bar | Tuesdays, 6-9PM | 21+ | No Cover | Tuesdays are for line dancing, and with Beyonce’s’ new country album on the way—we’re more than ready for a hoedown! Join the one and only Q or for helpful instructions, and a down right good time. 

Monday Happy Hour Karaoke | DRUS Bar | 3-10pm | 21+ | No Cover | Pick your favorite tune and get ready to belt this Monday (or next!). Oh, and don’t forget to take advantage of DRUS drink specials. 

Movie Night at OUTMemphis | Out Memphis, YEC | 5pm | 18-24 | Free |  OUTMemphis’ Youth Empowerment Center hosts fun, weekly movie nights every Friday. Commune with fellow young queers and watch a fun film!

Out in the Woods: FOG Fairy Tales | Evergreen Theatre | April 12 – April 20, various times | Starting at $30 | Legendary drag performance company, Friends of George’s, presents a comedic drag variety show that turns traditional fairy tales on their head, in a  hilarious, high-heeled spectacle. 

Papa Bear Trivia | The Pumping Station | Wednesdays, 7-9:50pm | 21+ | No Cover | Head to The Pumping Station every Wednesday for a “roaring good time!” Bring your most obscure facts for a chance to win awesome prizes, then hit up the patio for a fun night of entertainment.

Shantay You Play Drag Queen Bingo | Moxy | 7pm – 9pm | 21+ | Free | Every Thursday, join phenomenal rotating drag hosts Imogene Azengraber, Moth Moth Moth Krystal Karma, and Brenda Newport for a fabulous night of bingo at the Moxy. Come for the singing, dancing and fun, and you might even win a prize! 

Wicked the Musical | Orpheum Theatre | April 3 – April 21, various times | Ages 5 and up  | Tickets starting at $43 | The hit Broadway musical takes a fresh look at the events in Oz—see why so many have fallen in love with Wicked, as it plays at the Orpheum for the 5th time!

Art Bazaar Flea Market | 495 N Hollywood | 11am-5pm | All ages | Free | Discover treasures by local artisans and makers, including queer artists @diablit0e, @saycroche, and so many more. Stick around for awesome DJ sets, delicious food, and community!

Trans Day of Visibility March | Cooper St and Monroe Ave, Memphis, TN | All ages | Free | Lena Chipman leads a march in honor of Trans Day of Visibility in collaboration with Mid-South Trans Nation and OUTMemphis.

Easter Egg Roulette | The Pumping Station | 21+ | No Cover | Join your fellow LGBT+ community for the Pumping Station’s most hilarious Easter tradition. Drink specials and prizes will be offered to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners.

Monday, April 1

Free Pool | The Pumping Station | 21+| No Cover | Show off your pool skills this Monday, and mingle with local LGBT+ folks in between. 

Wednesday, April 3

Wicked the Musical, Opening Day | Orpheum Theatre | April 3 – April 21, various times | Ages 5 and up  | Tickets starting at $43  | The Broadway sensation and queer theater nerd fave opens at the Orpheum for the fifth time.

Friday, April 5

Memphis Tattoo Festival | Renasant Convention Center | April 5-7, various times | Ages 5 and up | Tickets starting at $25 | Tattoo-loving queers—Check out over 200 of the world’s greatest tattooists for three days of tattooing, art producing, merch selling, and more.

Scholastic Gender Fair | 258 N. Merton St. | 6pm | All ages | Free | Queers United Against Capitalism (QUAC) hosts a gender-affirming event for the Memphis trans and queer community with free clothes, haircuts, makeup, food, and good vibes.

Saturday, April 6

Bookstock Festival | Benjamin L. Hooks Central Library Lobby | 11am-3pm | All ages | Free | Memphis Area Authors’ Festival celebrates over 10 years of local literary talent with great panels, live performances, book giveaways and more. In the meantime, read on about how Memphis Public Libraries continue to be safe spaces for local LGBTQ+ communities. 

Thursday, April 11

Cossitt Courtyard Unplugged: Open Mic Night | Cossitt Library | 6-9pm | 18+ | Free | All are welcome to participate in this night of artistic celebration from live poetry, to music and more—plus delicious dishes from in-house cafe Dos Hermanos Kitchen. 

Friday, April 12

Rainbow Rumble: Crop Circles in Crowfields | Black Lodge | Doors 8pm, show 9pm | Tickets starting at $15 | This round of drag competition Rainbow Rumble season 4 is “cosmic couture” meets “rural charm.” Follow Rainbow Rumble for updates!

Three bands at HiTone Cafe | 21+ | $10 | Memphis metal punk duo Little Baby Tendencies, “queer pop post punk” band Handsome Girl Pretty Boy, and three-parts powerpop/classic punk/garage rock band Mystic Light Casino gather for a night of amazing Memphis-based sounds.

Art Bazaar Fashion Show | Black Lodge | 11am-5pm | $10 | Get into fashion with a Memphis flair, featuring local designers and looks you won’t find anywhere else, plus bops by DJ Space Age. 

Galactic Brunch | DRUS Bar | 12pm | 21+ | Starting at $25 | Come for the food, stay for out-of-this-world drag performances!

Mr. & Miss Shooting Star Pageant | DRUS Bar | 7pm | 21+ | Galaxy Worldwide Pageantry and multi-award winning drag performer Georgio St. Jon Golden present the Mr. & Miss Shooting Star Pageant. Stay tuned for updates and get ready for a fabulous show.

Puppy Palooza 2024 | Crosstown | 12-3pm | All ages | Free | One topic almost all LGBTQ folks can agree on is the amazing cuteness of puppies! Get ready for dog costume contests, tons of pup-friendly vendors and services, and more. Bring your fur babies, or adopt one on-site!
