Collierville Arts Council is proud to present A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Forum. Jason Spitzer will direct this hilarious Stephen Sondheim musical from Musical Theatre International. Broadway’s greatest farce is light, fast-paced, witty, irreverent and one of the funniest musicals ever written. A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum takes comedy back to its roots, combining situations from time-tested, 2000-year-old comedies of Roman playwright, Plautus, with the infectious energy of classic vaudeville. A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum is a nonstop laugh fest in which Pseudolus, a crafty slave, struggles to win the hand of a beautiful, but slow-witted, courtesan named Philia for his young master, Hero, in exchange for freedom. The plot twists and turns with cases of mistaken identity, slamming doors and a showgirl or two. This unforgettable, hysterical musical allows a terrific ensemble of comedic actors to shine – “something for everyone, a comedy tonight!” This show is rated PG.

ABOUT COLLIERVILLE ARTS COUNCIL – The Collierville Arts Council was formed as a fundraising organization to finish the Harrell Performing Arts Theatre. When the Community Center/Harrell Theatre complex was built in 1984, the theatre was an empty shell. Within three years, the funds were secured and the theatre opened in 1987. The focus of the Council was then shifted to underwrite the productions presented at the Harrell Theatre. Our purpose is to develop, promote, assist and coordinate the arts in the Town of Collierville and surrounding areas; to perform other charitable services for the benefit of the Town of Collierville and surrounding areas; and, to do any and all things allowable under the Tennessee Non-Profit Corporation Act. Collierville Arts Council is a not-for-profit, tax exempt organization under IRC 501(c)3; donations are tax deductible.
