Collierville Arts Council Announces Upcoming Production of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, The Musical

<Collierville>, <TN/USA>, <06/26/2017>  We are excited to present this fun musical at the Harrell Theatre from September 15-24, 2017. We will also have school matinees on 9/19 & 9/20. Joseph And The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat is loosely based on the bible story. Joseph is given a dazzling coat of many colours by his father Jacob. Driven by jealousy for their father’s seeming favouritism, Joseph’s 11 brothers take him to Egypt and sell him into a life of slavery. Things continue to look bleak for Joseph when he ends up in jail but it is his unusual talent for interpreting dreams that is his ticket to a better life when he is called upon to analyse the dreams of the great Pharoah. Impressed by Joseph’s predictions, Pharoah promotes Joseph to be his right-hand man. The songs cover a myriad of musical styles from rock ‘n’ roll and honky tonk through to calypso and country & western. Great numbers include the moving Close Every Door to the upbeat Any Dream Will Do. Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice struck lucky as schoolboys when they put together Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat as a short school play. They later developed it with more songs and Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat has been touring regularly.

Performances are set for September 15th, 16th, 22nd, & 23rd at 7:00 pm and September 17th & 24th at 2:30 pm. The production will take place at The Harrell Performing Arts Theatre (440 W. ABOUT <COLLIERVILLE ARTS COUNCIL> – The Collierville Arts Council was formed as a fundraising organization to finish the Harrell Performing Arts Theatre. When the Community Center/Harrell Theatre complex was built in 1984, the theatre was an empty shell. Within three years, the funds were secured and the theatre opened in 1987. The focus of the Council was then shifted to underwrite the productions presented at the Harrell Theatre.

Our purpose is to develop, promote, assist and coordinate the arts in the Town of Collierville and surrounding areas; to perform other charitable services for the benefit of the Town of Collierville and surrounding areas; and, to do any and all things allowable under the Tennessee Non-Profit Corporation Act.
