Artist Statement:
Active Shooter presents contemporary school shooting prevention culture in a montage of appropriated video shorts. The piece combines YouTube news footage from districts across the country to create an often jarring and occasionally hallucinatory montage of conflicting procedures. The video concludes with Kids to a Warzone from 2014 which juxtaposes footage from the Iraq war with testimony from students participating in active shooter drills. As American culture becomes increasingly militarized Active Shooter asks “Is this how we treat children?”

Used by an extremely broad range of music creators, Ableton Live not only facilitates the work of engineers, producers, and writers in professional, home, and mobile studio settings, but it is also a powerful platform for musicians on stage, in the DJ booth, and elsewhere.
