MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Hundreds of Deaf people and those who care about them will gather to celebrate Deaf Awareness Month at the Deaf Family Reunion on Friday, Sept. 20, from 2:30 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. at Marquette Park, 4946 Alrose Ave. (Park Ave. and Mendenhall).  This annual event is hosted by DeafConnect, a Memphis-based nonprofit that for 45 years has provided interpreting services and other resources for the deaf and hard of hearing.    

The Deaf Family Reunion, which is free and open to the public, will feature food, games and vendors who provide services to the deaf.

About DeafConnect

DeafConnect is a Memphis nonprofit organization started in 1975 to eliminate barriers so members of the deaf community have equal access to community services and programs.  DeafConnect provides interpreting services, American Sign Language classes, advocacy, employment assistance, independent living skills, referrals and community awareness services and events.  The organization educates businesses and individuals on various aspects of deafness and provides training and development opportunities for American Sign Language interpreters.  More information is available at DeafConnect.org.
