Families Belong Together Action Rally – 6/30

Latino Memphis Joins Cities Nationwide for “Families Belong Together and Free” Marches in Response to Trump’s Family Separation and Zero Tolerance Policy

Memphis, TN– Today, June 30th, Latino Memphis with support from the Tennessee Immigrant & Refugee Rights
Coalition, Community Legal Center, Indivisible Memphis, Memphis Activism Calendar, and the Memphis
community will join in solidarity with cities nationwide against the Trump administration’s inhumane and
unnecessary zero tolerance policies that separate families. Jeff Sessions’ new policy mandates prosecution of
families who cross the border, even if they are seeking legal asylum. These families are seeking a safer, better
life, only to be persecuted in the United States. President Trump’s recent Executive Order that came as a
response to public outcry against these horrific policies does not explicitly end family separation and does not
provide any solution for the thousands of young children that have been separated to be reunited with their
families. Instead the Executive Order aims to overlook the Flores agreement, which upholds child welfare laws
and prevents families from being detained indefinitely. The nationwide demonstrations are to say that we as a
country will not stand for these horrific policies, and we are ready to take action.

What: The Families Belong Together and Free Action Rally is in solidarity with families at the border and across
the nation. This action is in response to President Trump administration’s family separation and zero tolerance
policy which continues to terrorize families seeking safety and a new life. After select speakers share their
experiences, participants will be asked to visit different tents to learn how they can best take action against hateful
policies including voting in local, state, and federal elections, donating to local immigrant serving organizations,
volunteering their time and talents, and contacting their representatives.
