Free Screening of “Intruder in the Dust” as part of Faulkner weekend As part of the celebration, A Literary Bit of Faulkner, Chancellor’s House Hotel and Oxford Film Festival present a free screening of 1949’s, “Intruder in the Dust.” The film will play at 5 p.m. on October 13 in the ballroom of the hotel, 425 S Lamar Blvd, Oxford, MS 38655. The movie was filmed and world premiered in Oxford, Miss. in 1949. It's set in 1940s Mississippi as two teenage boys and an elderly woman combine forces to prevent a miscarriage of justice and clear a black man of a murder charge. After the free screening, noted author and folk historian John Cofield will speak about Faulkner and the Cofield collection. Cofield’s grandfather, J.R. Cofield, was Faulkner’s photographer. This event falls during both “A Literary Bit of Faulkner” weekend and the hotel’s first ‘Partners in the Arts Week’ which will feature opening receptions/events for artists of varying mediums as well as live performances from the “Live in the Lobby Lounge Music Series.” The weekend is hosted by Yoknapatawpha Arts Council and Visit Oxford.
