Free food, carnival rides and gifts for children at multi-cultural event on Saturday
MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A new event in Memphis this Saturday, Cinco de Mayo, will celebrate Día Del Niño or Children’s Day, one of the largest fiestas in Mexico. The free family-focused celebration will be from 11 a.m. – 5 p.m. in the fields at Treadwell Middle School at 920 N. Highland. The event is hosted by the two largest Hispanic organizations in town, Las Americas and Latino Memphis. This event replaces the annual Latino Memphis Festival that has been held in past years. Admission to this year’s Children’s Day festival is free, and so are food, carnival rides and gifts for up to 3,000 children. Food from Mexico and Central America will be available for purchase.
Event organizers expect the Children’s Day festival to become an annual event in Memphis.
“Family is central to Hispanic culture, and because of that, Día Del Niño is a huge celebration of children from around the world in Mexico and Central America,” said Greg Diaz, CEO of Las Americas and senior pastor of Nueva Direccion Church. “Our Children’s Day festival will share that love of children and family with our friends and neighbors in Memphis, and we expect this fiesta to attract people of all cultures, races and ethnicities to just hang out together and get to know one another in an afternoon of fun.”
