Church Health will kick off its inaugural Giving Day on Tuesday, August 28. The campaign aims to celebrate health while also raising funds to sustain the not-for-profit healthcare organization, which provides clinical and wellness services to working uninsured people in Shelby County. In collaboration with Temple Israel, Church Health will offer a series of Jewish cooking classes starting August 16 at 6 p.m. at the Church Health Nutrition Hub at Crosstown Concourse, 1350 Concourse Ave. This program aims to engage young adults in the art, origins, tradition and technique behind time-honored Jewish recipes and holiday traditions. The August class will celebrate two traditional dishes of Rosh Hashanah—cabbage rolls and apples with honey. In Church Health’s free Community Culinary Medicine Cooking Classes, you’ll learn how to make meals that are nutritious and delicious! Our six-week fall series start Tuesday, Aug. 21 and continue through Sept. 25. Morning (10 am-12 pm) and evening (6-8 pm) series are available. There’s nothing quite as sweet as giving! Church Health Nutrition will host Family Baking Classes on Saturday, Aug. 25 at 9 and 11 AM at the Church Health Nutrition Hub, 1350 Concourse Ave. Families will prepare a dozen oatmeal cookies per participant and take them home to sell to friends and family to help spread awareness for Church Health. All proceeds will benefit Church Health, the healthcare home to more than 70,000 working uninsured people and their families in Shelby County. Registration is $10 per participant. In celebration of that beauty, Church Health will present The Art of Dinner on Friday, September 7 at 6 p.m. in the Church Health Nutrition Hub, 1350 Concourse Ave. In this interactive cooking class, Chef Joshua House will guide you through a three-course menu including Butternut Squash Bisque, Caramelized Chicken with Mushroom Risotto, and Poached Pears with Vanilla Bean Ice Cream.
