I am Dr. Susan Lacy, the founder of Modern Gynecology & Reproductive Health. When I decided to open a new solo practice in Midtown Memphis, I faced many difficult decisions. One of the easiest decisions I made was to make our office an inclusive and welcoming space for all who might benefit.
What are the most important and relevant issues that we can address in our goal to improve reproductive healthcare in Memphis, TN, particularly in the LGBTQ+ community? There are a lot of great technical and scientific improvements in medicine that we can tap into to provide great care, but above all of that, the most crucial service that we can provide is access to an inclusive, supportive and knowledgeable healthcare team that is committed to meeting your needs.
OUR FIVE AREAS OF CARE:
Gynecology: The bread & butter of what we do is general gynecologic care. From pap smears to contraceptive management to evaluation of complex issues like endometriosis and heavy periods, we are committed to providing excellent services with cutting edge treatment. We are aware that a gynecologic exam can be stressful and have instruments and equipment designed to make it easier. Often, people in the lesbian and transgender community neglect gynecologic care for a multitude of reasons. We will make your visit as comfortable as possible in a warm, welcoming setting.
Hormone Optimization: There is a plethora of recent scientific data that shows how there is a significant decline in hormones, particularly testosterone in both men and women that begins far earlier than most people realize. This decline manifests as fatigue, sleep disturbance, decreased libido and many other issues. We have a comprehensive program for cisgender men and women for management of hormones with subcutaneous pellet therapy. We are exploring the options for transgender care with hormone pellet therapy for the future.
Transgender hormone therapy: There are a relatively small number of medical offices that are skilled and experienced in providing transgender care. We take our commitment to this community very seriously and will work with you to help you find a treatment regimen that works effectively. We will also help to provide resources for other services, such as surgical management and logistical & legal issues.
Fertility services: We provide initial fertility evaluation and management for basic assessment. We can help coordinate insemination, preferably with donor sperm from a bank, and we can provide referrals to an infertility specialist when needed for more complex care.
Aesthetic services: We recognize that it is important to feel good both inside and out. We have a licensed aesthetician that is skilled in treatments with Botox, filler and PRP treatments.
Medicine is always changing and the technology is complex. But, what I have learned, through over 20 years of practice, is that what matters most is compassionate, personalized care.
