NASHVILLE, TN (July 26, 2017) – Nashville-based alternative 6-piece queer rock band FAME&FICTION (Pictured (L-R): Lauren Horbal, Owen, Trish Noe, Leah Shipchack, Kristen Ford, Kelsey Von Strantz) will embark on their first tour ever beginning next week. Collectively, FAME&FICTION write and develop songs around the energy of 6 souls rocking out in an East Nashville basement together.
While FAME&FICTION’s sound is alternative rock, all of these musicians are Nashville transplants…which speaks to the magnetic power of Music City, best known as the country music capital of the world. “This is a town where anything goes, everyone plays an instrument and the bar is decidedly higher,” states Kristen Ford, lead guitarist of FAME&FICTION. From rock to Latin to orchestral pop to blues, FAME&FICTION has become a catalyst for these 6 individuals to do something…not because it is easy or practical, but because it is so much ‘DAMN FUN.’
“In 2017, it feels like nobody makes albums anymore,” states Ford. “Nobody plays in a 6 piece band. Nobody needs to nail four part harmonies when a pedal or computer program can do it with ease. One DJ can move a crowd and beats are pre-programmed into their expensive software. The pop songs of 2017 are all highly controlled, compressed, auto tuned, subject neutered and bland. Like potato chips, we are meant to love a song at first listen and take it no further.”
In the Trump era, where LGBTQ rights are under attack, the glass ceiling for women is thicker than ever, in an industry where women are expected to either be a girlfriend of a musician or a sexualized singer, and deep within the heart of Red Tennessee, FAME&FICTION has MUCH to say, to play and to celebrate.
The band recently launched a GoFundMe campaign to raise money to record their first EP and music video. To contribute, visit https://www.gofundme.com/queer-altrock-band-needs-your-help

ABOUT FAME&FICTION
Lead singer Leah and rhythm guitarist/vocals Lauren moved from Connecticut to Nashville, TN to seek more opportunities within the explosive indie/alternative rock scene. In August of 2016, they met Trish and Kristen at the local gay bar. The rest, as they say…is history. After just one jam session- the group knew that they had something very special. They realized they needed a bass player and luckily Owen, a work friend, was always down to play music. Kristen (www.kristenfordmusic.com) was a soloing artist doing 200+ shows both nationally and internationally…however she was looking to do a side project based out of Nashville. After jamming with multiple local musicians, she stumbled upon cellist/violinist Kelsey from the band VON Strantz (vonstrantz.bandcamp.com) who is also a nationally touring artist performing over 200 shows per year. Somehow all the planets and stars collided and this alternative rock-supergroup was born.
