Call for portfolios!
Nothing speaks to an artist’s ability like an awesome portfolio of work. Whether you’re a fine artist, an illustrator, student, or professional, Focus magazine wants to see what you’ve got to offer.
We’re looking for artists who can take an idea from us and work some visual magic. You will work collaboratively with our editor on any given assignment, from presenting rough sketches of your interpretation to the final piece. You’ll always be working towards a deadline, so if you’re not so good with deadlines, this may not be the gig for you. Your contribution may be featured on the cover of an upcoming issue, or on an inside theme page. All of that will be determined when the work is assigned.
If you are commissioned to work on a project, you will be compensated. Please note that your work will be commissioned as ‘work for hire’ (but always with a credit to you) and may go on to appear in promotional
material and web promos for upcoming issues. If we sell the work commercially (think t-shirts, posters, etc.), you’ll also get part of the profits!
Once we’ve reviewed portfolios, we’ll make decisions on whose work best fits our needs. You’ll be invited in to meet the Focus Magazine team to discuss your process (and ours) and review our upcoming magazine themes. You may get matched to an assignment that day!
All submissions should be made to editor@focusmidsouth.com and should be sent as a pdf or with a web link.
