NASHVILLE/KNOXILLE – The Knoxville Gay Men’s Chorus (KGMC) will present a concert titled “Broadway on Tour” on Friday, June 1, 7:30 p.m. at Belmont United Methodist Church, 2007 Acklen Ave, Nashville. The concert is part of the KGMC’s regional tour to promote the acceptance of all people. The concert features musical highlights from their most recent show, “Broadway on Gay Street.” The tour also includes performances in Chattanooga and Kingsport.
The KGMC was founded in 2012 by a group of fifteen singers and has since grown to an active roster of over 80 members. KGMC is the only gay men’s chorus in the state of Tennessee, and the chorus is one of the largest LGBTQ organizations in the state. There will be forty members on the tour. The chorus members consider themselves “voices for equality,” and seek to make others aware of the issues that face LGBTQ individuals.
“The KGMC is thrilled to embark on our first regional tour,” says Dr. Alan Stevens, artistic director. “We hope to engage audiences throughout the state and ask them to consider how they can help to build equality in Tennessee.” Stevens, who is also the associate director of choral activities at East Tennessee State University, was appointed as artistic director in 2015.
Admission to the concert is on a donation basis. The concert is partially supported by Belmonters for Inclusion, an LGBTQ organization associated with Belmont United Methodist.
