MICAH – Memphis Interfaith Coalition For Action and Hope
MICAH, Memphis Interfaith Coalition for Action and Hope, is a growing partnership of nearly
fifty area faith-based institutions, labor unions and civic organizations, joined together across
a variety of faiths, ethnicities, and generations, to give a powerful, unified voice for citizens on
issues of justice affecting the greater Memphis community. MICAH aims to make Memphis a
more just city for all.
The public is invited to attend MICAH’s public meeting, Moving Memphis Forward, Sunday,
October 21, 2018 from 4:30-6:00 at the historic Mason Temple, 930 Mason Street, Memphis.
Doors open at 3:45 for registration. Attendees are encouraged to arrive early to enjoy a
special performance by Memphis Gospel group Adajyo before the meeting begins.
A growing list of confirmed local and state policymakers and candidates will hear from MICAH
on three key platforms: Education, Economic Equity and Immigration and Intercultural Equity.
A detailed presentation and analysis of MICAH’s issues, as well as creative, strategic ideas to
move those issues forward, will be presented. The Education task force will address issues
related to poverty, poorly maintained schools, wraparound services, and support for teachers.
The Economic Equity task force will be discussing issues related to housing, business
development, transportation, reentry, and living wage jobs. The Immigration and Intercultural
Equity will focus on issues connected to strengthening the Citizen Law Enforcement Review
Board (CLERB), creating and recognizing city identification cards which can be issued to all
local residents, and initiating and implementing anti-racism and cultural sensitivity training.
Everyone in attendance will have the opportunity to commit to working with MICAH on these
issues to move Memphis forward.
