MT Lambda Hosts 3rd Annual Transgender Day of Remembrance

by Focus Staff

MT Lambda is hosting its 3rd annual Transgender Day of Remembrance on Saturday, November 17 at 6:00 pm at the Student Union Building on the MTSU campus. Although the official date is November 20, MTSU has decided to hold the event on Saturday prior due to scheduling reasons. Transgender Day of Remembrance (TDOR) is an annual observance that honors the memory of those whose lives were lost in acts of anti-transgender violence.

Additionally, during the week of November 13-19, people and organizations around the country participate in Transgender Awareness Week to help raise the visibility of transgender people and address the issues trans people face.

Founded in 1988, MT Lambda is the oldest LGBT+ higher education student organization in the state of Tennessee. MT Lambda’s mission is to provide a safe and secure environment for everyone in the LGBT+ community at MTSU. MT Lambda advocates for the rights of all LGBT+ students at Middle Tennessee State University. Whereas MT Lambda is not a partisan organization, MT Lambda may focus on issues that surround and drive the broader LGBT+ community.

Furthermore, MT Lambda educates all students at MTSU on issues surrounding the LGBT+ community through an open and honest dialog that fosters equality and acceptance for all. The organization is an engaged member of the MTSU campus community as well as the larger community of Middle Tennessee. Members of MT Lambda are expected to take part in annual MT Lambda activities and give back to their community through volunteering and service work.
