The Avant Garde: Neverland! Fundraiser for Nashville CARES was an event filled with glitter, fairy wings, pirates, and whores (if the NashTrash sisters are to be believed). The attire was festive cocktail and costumes were not required, but heavily encouraged, according to Nashville CARES staff.
The costumes ranged wildly from detailed and historically accurate to Disneybounding (contemporary fashion pieces are used to create the essence of the character), and everything in between. With a building full of party-goers, there was always a new, exciting costume to see, wherever one turned. Some of the favorites were a fancy-dress crocodile, a body-painted pirate, and a fairy with glitter from head to toe.
Hundreds showed up at Studio 615, which had been turned into our very own local Neverland for the party. Many of the partygoers vied for the Silent Auction items which included artwork, gift certificates, signed music lyrics from some of Nashville’s favorite country artists, and autographed posters from Broadway productions.
Musical entertainment was provided by Guilty Pleasures, while Sheri Lynn and Brenda Kay, The Jugg Sisters of NashTrash Tours delighted (and shocked) everyone when they hit the stage to auction off several larger items with their signature trash-talking. Guests were amazed as they watched Kelsey Schoff create another auction item during the party, a gorgeous Neverland painting with an unbelievable depth of color. The beautiful Aurora Sexton was amazing as always, as she hit the stage for a single-song performance and to invite all to the after-party at Play Dance Bar. As they left, many of the party-goers were overheard saying they cannot wait until next year’s event.
