From our editor, Joan Allison:

I’m so happy to announce that Dana Cooper will be the 2018 Focus Mid-South Intern. I met Dana at a University of Memphis journalism school internship fair this spring. My initial impression was spot on: Dana is friendly, intelligent, curious, and a go getter! I could not have asked for anyone better.
In her role as intern, Dana will be helping me cultivate story ideas for the magazine, expand our list of community contacts, and develop a comprehensive calendar of LGBT+ events here in the Mid-South. Dana is an excellent writer, too (see the Laverne Cox story on focusmidsouth.com), and she is already prepping for a story with Boy George! Dana also has experience with podcasts and will be taking the reins as she guides Rico and me through this new venture for the magazine.
Dana says about herself, “I’m a writer, fledgling podcaster and graduate student pursuing the Master of Arts degree in Journalism from the University of Memphis. When not buried in research and grading papers, I enjoy retreating into the world of my imagination where I am an acclaimed playwright, beloved DJ and expert mixologist.”
