FocalPoint’s Grand Opening was Thursday night at Crosstown Concourse. Dozens of people packed into the unique eyewear salon to check out Memphis’ first optical boutique! The party was decadently catered, with delicious food from Cafe Society and Blink, and bartenders serving up amazing cocktails and elegant wine. I had a very hard time pulling myself away from the spread, but once I did I was able to check out some great designs and learn what FocalPoint is all about!
FocalPoint emphatically stresses that they don’t sell glasses, instead they focus on customizing and building individual “eyewear wardrobes” to fit customer’s visual needs and lifestyle. A future-looking optical salon, FocalPoint creates customizable glasses through state-of-the-art 3-D scanning and printing. They also boast several exclusive lines of eyewear, including that of the preeminent Los Angeles-based designer Blake Kuwahara who was actually at the event to introduce and launch his frames. Blake has been widely lauded for his bold experimentation and innovation in the fashion industry and is actually a celebrity favorite whose designs have been worn by stars such as Brad Pitt, Sandra Bullock, Halle Berry, Samuel L. Jackson, Will Smith, and Charlize Theron. Clearly it’s time for me to ditch my contacts and get a pair!

Apart from the salon, Focal Point will have four doctors on-site and will also serve as a clinical instruction space for fourth year students from the Southern College of Optometry. It promises to be a significant and welcome addition to the Crosstown Concourse which emphasizes quality health care, creative well-being, and community engagement.
