Prism Pages: A Poem Called ‘It’s Just You’ by Whitney Carter

Whitney Carter shares poem, ‘It’s Just You,’ for Prism Pages. This work was featured in our May/June PRIDE Issue.

You write my music like you understand my soul and I didn’t know I wanted you to
You take my words and turn them into reality and that was never something I asked of you

But it’s you, it’s just you

You find the chords in our chaos and you make sense of it all, when the walls cave in and I’m drowning you catch my fall
I don’t know why or how you do what you do

But it’s you, it’s just you.

The euphoria is so sweet, but scary at best when I close my eyes, I can feel the rhythm of your heartbeat in my chest, I wasn’t searching for you but you were there

Both of us creating music to a life that wasn’t fair

You’re a journey I’m taking, a roller coaster I wanna ride, I’m not sure if I believe in fate, I’m not sure what I believe is true, but one thing I know for sure is it’s all you, it’s just you
