FiftyForward: Nashville Not-for-Profit Improves Life for Ages 50+

Founded in 1956, FiftyForward, is a leading resource for adults 50+ in Middle Tennessee who seek to live longer, and more fulfilling lives. With the help of paid staff, volunteers, and community partners, the nonprofit agency provides innovative programs and services for older adults and their families. More than 20,000 individuals – senior adults, children and families— are impacted by their programming through seven locations in Davidson and Williamson counties in Middle Tennessee.

Within their programming, FiftyForward features an LGBTQ+ Peer Support Group that meets online once a month. The group aims to “socialize, share and receive encouragement and ideas, and build a community with each other.” Other FiftyForward programming includes exercise and fitness, health and wellness, performing arts, day trips, and volunteer opportunities (that will continue to be redefined due to the pandemic). LGBTQ+ Peer Support Group contact is Ashley Hunter, ahunter@ fiftyforward.org or 615-622-4154.

Another of the group’s outreach efforts is their library of podcasts. The monthly podcasts, known as Squeeze the Day, cover extraordinary older adults living their best life now. Squeeze the Day highlights inspiring stories and experiences from all walks of life with the hope of encouraging older adults to squeeze every drop of fun and purpose out of life’s second chapters. For those in need of care, or those who care for older adults, FiftyForward offers supportive care services to help you live more safely and comfortably including assistance to access resources that meet your needs and ultimately improve your quality of life. FiftyForward Supportive Care services include: Fresh/Meals on Wheels (Davidson County area only), Adult Day Services (nurturing and supportive program for older adults and their caregivers), Victory Over Crime (advocacy for older adults affected by crime or scams), care team planning, conservatorship assistance (appointed by the courts), and assistance for those aging in place. The care list is extensive. Find out more at fiftyforward. org/supportive-care/
