Longtime Nashville resident singer-songwriter Steff Mahan is releasing a new album — her first since 2014 — at the end of June with a celebratory CD release party.

The album, Mahan said, is a definitive breakup album.

“It’s definitely NOT going to be a toe-tapper,” she joked.

The album is titled “Enough,” because she felt like she was never enough for her ex.

“I’ve had enough … and I wasn’t enough,” she said. “You know when you break up with somebody … there are people who break your heart, but then there’s that one person who just breaks you. And this was my breaking person.”

Her favorite song on the new work is titled “I Want You Back,” but it’s probably not about what you’d think it is.

“The song is all about that time I wasted,” she said. “We were together for seven years, and I want that back. And the me that I was before you? I want that back, too.”

She readily admits that the bad breakup prepared her to be in a better relationship.

“I’m with someone now, and I’m happy,” she said. “But you’re never the same. There’s the one person who you always carry with you, and it’s what makes you doubt trusting anyone else.”

She will debut her 10-track album at her CD release party at 6 p.m. June 29 at The Local in East Nashville.

To really know her music, you need to see her live. It’s an intimate storytelling event set to music.

“If you don’t know me before my show, you will 100 percent know me after it,” she said. “I’m very honest and tell it like it is. We have a good cry and we have a good laugh.”
