Highly anticipated second installment returns to Nashville May 10-12 at Third Man Records, Mercy Lounge and The High Watt
Named “Best New Festival” by the Nashville Scene
NASHVILLE, TN (April 10, 2018) – The Far Out Nashville psychedelic music and arts festival returns to Music City for a second year and will take place May 10th through 12th at Third Man Records, Mercy Lounge and The High Watt in Nashville, TN. Along with national acts Electric Citizen, Al Lover, Dead Feathers, Nest Egg, A Drug Called Tradition, and The Beginner’s Mynd, the 2018 lineup also features a number of Tennessee acts, including Ttotals, The Holifields, Fragments of God, The Chewers, Black Moon Mother, The Spiderberries, and J. Carter.
The annual event, which begins on May 10th in The Blue Room at Jack White’s Third Man Records, kicks off with the Far Out Film Fest, an evening of psychedelic cinema and outsider film. Selected from submissions collected in the months leading up to the festival, these 16 mm and digital film pieces are intended to complement the hallucinatory sounds from the weekend’s music. During the course of the evening, the winners of the Audience Award, Jury Award, and Director’s Choice Award will be announced.
Art installations by Sophia Gordon, Shahnaz Lighari, Jake Johnston, and floral artist Meadow Speak, as well as live visuals from Labrys Light Show, Window Light, and the Southern Demon Herd, will be part of the festivities on May 11th and 12th at Mercy Lounge and The High Watt.
The event will also include a Far Out Market on May 12th from 5pm to 12 midnight with vendors selling original artworks, records, and artisanal goods. Vendors include Draconis Arcanum, Holly & the Hare, Utopian Slur, Grendel’s Choice, Television Lights, Vapexhale, and Jeff Crawford.
Far Out Nashville was founded by local entrepreneurs Kari Leigh Ames and Brianne O’Neill. Ames works continually alongside local and national bands by providing liquid visuals at concerts with her company Labrys Light Show, while O’Neill runs the marketing department for the highly awarded desktop vaporizer company, Vapexhale. Both were inspired by similar festivals around the country and saw a need for such an event in Nashville. Far Out Nashville is sponsored by local favorites, Adventure Tattoo, Soft Junk, Exit Realty East Nashville, Draconis Arcanum, Electric Thread, Meadow Speak, Historic High, and H.O.M.E.
“Being able to foster this environment for connection and awareness is such an honor for us. This year we are expanding Far Out to larger capacity adjacent venues, an indoor marketplace, and a film festival,” Ames said. “This is in addition to larger scale pieces by local artists, an evolving community installation by Turnip Green Creative Reuse, and more surprises.”
A portion of the proceeds will benefit Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Studies (MAPS), a non-profit research and education organization that is striving to improve quality of life through the development of medical, legal, and cultural contexts for people to benefit from the careful uses of psychedelics and cannabis. Recently MAPS has been working with U.S. Veterans and terminally ill patients to offer therapeutic assistance, as well as funding clinical trials for MDMA-assisted psychotherapy for the potential treatment of PTSD in adults.
“It is extremely important to us to use the Far Out Nashville event as a means to help raise money and awareness for MAPS, which is an organization we really believe in,” Ames said. Tickets for the Far Out Film Fest at The Blue Room at Third Man Records will be $10 at the door. It is an 18+ event.
Pre-sale tickets for the Mercy Lounge and The High Watt shows are $35. There are also single day tickets available for $15 (Friday) & $20 (Saturday). Both evenings are 18+.
